Director, IT (Java/Python Environment)

Eastern Ontario

Customs Brokerage and Logistics

Engagement #0232-0001S

We are currently leading the search for a Director, IT on behalf of our client, a growing customs brokerage and logistics services provider to Canadian and US companies.

Reporting to the President, the Director, IT, will be a key player in driving the continued growth of the organization and will own organizational strategy and implementation with respect to IT. Specifically, he/she will lead the distillation of current systems into functional areas to allow for a greater use of commercially-available code (hosted in-house or SaaS) to replace proprietary programming. The goal is to focus proprietary coding on unique value-added opportunities.

In addition, the candidate will be responsible for identifying opportunities to outsource development, and for requirements and specification-planning related to that endeavour. It is envisioned that the scope of management responsibilities will leave significant blocks of time for direct coding work by the candidate, making for a truly hands-on role. The existing platform is largely Python-based with other Java and PHP components.

Additional responsibilities include integrating with external customers, service providers and government systems; managing and maintaining Linux and Windows servers in a vSphere environment; occasional ETL and data reporting tasks; and, occasional direct end-user support.

Our client strives to be quicker, smarter, and more efficient than larger competitors. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on technology leader to take on a highly-visible and self-determined role in a nimble, entrepreneurial and fast-growth environment.
